He may be prince relative to what stands beneath him.

He remains servant relative to the One above him.

This is not a reduction of his stature.

It is the secret of his stature.

A servant may hold every key to the palace and never confuse the keys with ownership.

A steward may administer the entire household without imagining that the house originates in him.

The greater the trust, the more severe the demand for בִּיטּוּלbittulSelf-nullification — more precisely, the surrender of the claim to be an independent source. Not the erasure of the self but the emptying of false authorship.Glossary.

This gives Metatron extraordinary relevance to the problem of sacred authority.

The fallen imagination says that increased capacity should culminate in increased self-importance.

Torah reverses the movement.

The more that passes through you, the less you can afford to imagine that you are its source.

The scholar must become more humble as Torah increases.

The leader must become more careful as responsibility increases.

The prophet falls on his face.

Moshe, who speaks with HaShem in a manner unparalleled among prophets, is praised as עניו מאד, exceedingly humble.

The greatest shaliach is not the one who becomes fascinated with his own chosenness.

It is the one in whom the sender's will arrives with the least distortion.

This is how the Metatron principle enters human leadership.

Power says: “Look what I can command.”

מַלְכוּתMalchusKingship; the tenth and final sefirah, the receiving and speaking faculty of the sefirotic order, and the point from which a lower world begins.Glossary in its rectified inward form says: “What has been entrusted to me, and how do I make a dwelling for it?”

The first builds a throne above others.

The second becomes a throne from within.

Metatron is immense because he does not self-coronate.

His crown is received.

Heikhalot Heikhalot / 3 Enoch tradition: The palace literature, in which Chanoch ben Yered is explicitly identified with Metatron and given office, garment, crown, names and administrative authority.
