The Danger of Becoming Fascinated With Chanoch

When the palace eclipses the avodah

Every recovery has a counterfeit.

Chanoch can be rediscovered in a way that makes Torah deeper.

He can also be rediscovered in a way that feeds precisely the consciousness his story is meant to rectify.

Secret names.

Hidden ranks.

Celestial power.

Chosen identities.

Cosmic status.

Private revelation.

These can become intoxicating.

And the irony would be complete.

The human being who became Metatron through fidelity and בִּיטּוּלbittulSelf-nullification — more precisely, the surrender of the claim to be an independent source. Not the erasure of the self but the emptying of false authorship.Glossary would be used as an archetype for spiritual self-inflation.

That cannot be the recovery.

The test is simple.

Does learning about Metatron make HaShem larger in our consciousness and the independent ego smaller?

Or does it make us fascinated with becoming metaphysically exceptional?

Does Chanoch lead us back to walking?

Or away from ordinary עֲבוֹדָהavodahService, and the inner work of it. The measurements describe the palace; the avodah tells us why the palace matters.Glossary?

Does the celestial scribe make our speech more truthful?

Does the Prince of the Presence make us more present?

Does the bearer of the Name make us more careful not to claim what is not ours?

Does the Great Servant make us better servants?

If not, we have approached the palace and stared at the furniture.
